History of Mealy's Funeral Home

Jerome Mealy was the grandfather of the business and began serving families in 1917. At that time, along with the business came a horse drawn hearse. Jerome was instrumental in organizing the Eagle Fire Department and he was the department’s first secretary-treasurer.

His son, Kenneth E Mealy followed in his father’s footsteps. In 1933, Kenneth attended mortuary school in Milwaukee. After graduating, Kenneth served in the Army in Italy during World War II. After the war, Kenneth joined his father in running the business in Eagle. Jerome passed away in 1952 and Kenneth continued to run the family business. Kenneth was also a fireman for the Eagle Fire Department and was the Chief from 1948 to 1961.

Kenneth’s son, Jerome (Jerry), named after his grandfather, also followed family history, and was the Assistant Fire Chief for Eagle Fire Department for many years. Jerry has served as a firefighter for the past thirty plus years. In 1982, Jerry joined his father and became the third generation of the family run funeral business. A second location was purchased in Palmyra, Wisconsin in 2002. After Kenneth passed away in 2004, Jerry continues the family business with the same integrity and commitment of his grandfather and father before him.
